Hey guys, these last several days visitors would receive completely random and instant “408 Request Time-out. Your browser didn’t send a complete request in time.” errors while browsing the site. We investigated the issue thoroughly and it turned out to be a browser specific bug plaguing the new version of Google Chrome.
The issue is described in detail at:
We managed to significantly lessen the errors to less than 1 per 100 impressions (from at least 10 – 15 per 100) by manually increasing server response time. The 408 error itself is not permanent in any way. In fact, if you refresh immediately after receiving the message, the page is likely to load. Note that other browsers are completely unaffected so you may want to consider them for the time being.
Our expectations are that it won’t take long until the issue is completely resolved. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience!
Update 4:17 PM [UTC ± 00:00]
We’ve been in touch with the guys responsible for the particular code. Their confirmation is that the issue has been fixed in Chrome version [37.0…]. Unfortunately, we’ve just hit [36.0…] and it will be about 6 weeks till [37.0…] goes out of the beta and hits a stable channel.
Fortunately, there is a quick and easy way to fix the issue right now. You just need to turn off ”Predict network actions to improve page load performance”, which can be found at ”Settings” > “Show advanced settings…”.
